Desire – Extract
Get Hungrier.
From our Manifesto…
‘The only way to get mean is to get lean. Until you’ve starved every ounce of pudgy fat off your dreams, you’ll never have the drive to go out and get them.’
In our last Proof, we shared that Ambition is the seed to greatness. Desire is what’s inside that seed. We’re not talking about the wishy-washy, wouldn’t-it-be-nice kind of wanting that sometimes masquerades as desire. We’re talking the burn-hotter than-a-forest-fire, sleepless-at-night variety. And like anything worth having, this kind of desire takes work on your part.
“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential… these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence.” – Confucius
Move Past Want.
The first key to turning up the intensity of desire is to vanquish the weakling imposter of “want.” This is where clarity comes in. Desire is an emotion, and our emotions are tied to what we are thinking about. As a 3rdNutter, it will come as no surprise that you’re in control of what you’re thinking about. But it does take a bit of discipline.
Get to the Why.
Is there a desperation like the need to breathe when you think about what it is you desire? If not, or even if so, have you thought about why that is? What is it about your dream that is so special? Dedicate time each day not just to thinking about what you’re after, but in zeroing in on the motivating forces behind that desire. This will help keep the flame on high, and will also help you get a better picture of the impact this change will make in your life, and perhaps that of others. You’ll also want to turn that image into high-def.
Start Visualizing.
Think about the way you’ll feel when you achieve this pursuit, how others around you might feel, and what your life will be like once you’ve gotten what you’re after. Don’t be afraid to go all out here…imagine the words you’ll say, the first people you’ll tell, or even what you’ll be wearing. Let yourself dwell in the positive glow of your future achievement. If they exist, watch videos or read stories of others who have achieved what you’re after. By taking some time to get a crystal clear image of what it is you’re after and tapping into the emotions that will come from that, you’ll allow your desire to start running wild. Actions To Take This Week.
- Take a long, hard look at that ONE pursuit you want to go after.
- Ask yourself these three questions, and write down the answers.
- What does this mean to me?
- Why is it important?
- How will it make my life (or someone else’s life) better?
- Post your written answers to your bathroom mirror and reflect on it daily!
